Principal’s Message

Welcome to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Moorebank. As you navigate through our website you will learn that St Joseph’s is a school with a strong sense of community with Christ at its centre. We are a school that promotes the development of our student’s academic, spiritual and creative gifts and talents. In taking up the opportunities offered here your child and your family will experience a real sense of belonging to a dynamic and supportive community.

Our school works in close partnership with the active Parish of St. Joseph’s. I share the leadership of this school with our Pastors, Father Mathew and Father Chris, as well as the school’s leadership team. The school’s teaching staff are also an integral part in the leadership of our school and have a key role in policy and program development, implementation and evaluation.

St Joseph’s offers a learning program that has an emphasis on developing individual learning competence within a challenging, yet structured, curriculum. These standards are maintained through a commitment to ongoing professional learning of our staff. We place an emphasis on attainment and success in literacy, numeracy and Religious Education and we offer opportunities for the students to develop their creative abilities. It is a place where all students are valued for their uniqueness and are treated with dignity while being challenged to be the best that they can be so that they can make a positive difference in our world.

It is with great delight as Principal of St Joseph’s that I invite you to click through the pages of our website and hope that you will take up the invitation to join our wonderful and supportive community.

Ms Christine Bitar-Claxton
Principal

History
our history
St Joseph’s School was officially opened in 1975. The school began that year with 27 Kindergarten students. The original building had six classrooms, as classes were added each year until 1981 when it catered for girls from K–6 and boys from K–4. In 1990, with the closure of the primary section of Patrician Brothers’ College Liverpool, St Joseph’s boys were retained at the school to Year 6. In 2008 new vibrant and spacious Kindergarten classrooms were built. The school has undergone many internal classroom changes to facilitate contemporary 21st century learning.

The school has continued to grow from a one stream to two stream and now three stream in some grades, still maintaining a tight knit community feel. Many of our children’s parents and their grandparents attended the school.

In 1973 St Joseph’s Parish was established from the older parish of Liverpool, to serve the growing residential area. The parish priest, Fr Terrence Duggan, and Archdiocesan authorities decided that a parish school was warranted, and a funding grant was obtained from the Commonwealth government.

In 2009, the school with Federal Government funding, commenced the design and construction of new Kindergarten and Year 1 classrooms with a Reading Recovery room and a shared flexible learning space. A large shaded all weather play area was installed and the relocation of an existing undercover shade area to the Northern Playground was completed mid year. In addition, four classrooms have undergone refurbishment and enlargement with the installation of Interactive Whiteboards in the remaining six classrooms.

The current Principal, Mrs Bitar-Claxton was appointed to lead St Joseph’s School in June 2018 with a student population of 425 and 30 members of staff.
